Icy Current- Second Place
Artist’s Statement: Beneath its icy surface a current flows. Its force, a reminder that although things may appear to freeze, they are in motion. Nature’s way of reminding us to push forward.

Ocean’s Tentacles - First Place
Radiant Convergence
Artist’s Statements:
Ocean’s Tentacles
Swirling blues and whites evoke the ocean’s pulse – alive, mysterious, and untamed. Flowing tendrils reach outward like the sea’s grasp, capturing movement, depth, and the rhythm between chaos and calm.
Radiant Convergence
Golden light bursts through layered chaos, symbolizing creation and renewal. Fluid motion meets chance, revealing beauty in entropy and harmony in the unpredictable flow of color and form.

Patches 1
Artist’s Statement: I grew up in a generation where patches on one’s pants were an everyday thing. A simple patch mended material giving it new strength and endurance, with a flair of style and creativity. I like to think about how as humans we mend, shape, re-create, and patch together our lives. We create new meaning - new purpose - blending the old with the new - like a shiny new patch.
2025 VAST New Member Exhibition
Artist’s Statement: I’m astonished by the beauty of the ocean -its waves that build and crash, and its tides that move whole shorelines. The magnitude of its ability to stir within me both a sense of calmness and fear – two extremes – never fails to leave me in awe. The ocean’s dance between such contrasting states of being produces a movement and fluidity that deeply inspires me. The rich palette of the ocean with its blues, greens, and froth of white, challenges me to think about how these colors could best be reflected upon canvas. Capturing the ocean’s beauty and power reminds me of nature’s unique ability to demonstrate that both forces coexist. It's the combination of extremes that creates a sense of intrigue and wonder. It is my hope that the viewer will lose themselves within the movement and color, experience the awe of nature’s duality, and perhaps consider how these disparate forces coexist within themselves.

BIG WAVE
Artist’s Statement: Capturing the beauty of the immensity of a big wave, challenged me to think about the forces at play. How water churns to create motion; stirring elements of land and sea. These great forces generate an energy that invite many to watch its splendor, and for the surfer enthusiast, to simply catch a wave.

FLOWER POWER
Artist’s Statement: Every year as winter fades to spring, I get excited about the beauty of the budding trees, the appearance of perennials as they pop above the surface of the dirt, and the return of the many critters that frequent the new blooms. I start to dream about the flowers that will soon grace fields and gardens. Flowers are powerful. Beyond their beauty, flowers have this unique ability to transform the landscape in both a physical and mental way. They are a powerful symbol of expression. Flowers are sent to others in moments of celebration and sorrow. They can brighten one’s day, warm hearts, melt hearts, express love and sorrow, and lighten the soul. Flowers have the power to transform. They are magical. They are powerful.

Eruption
Artist Statement: From a helicopter, I observed the clash of mother nature’s forces – the remaining spews of an active volcano. Witnessing how the warm colors of the fiery explosion met the cool colors of the ocean left me in awe. Using acrylic paint and pigment, mixed with medium, and fluid art techniques (such as air manipulations and canvas spinning), I created the inspiring landscape of colors I witnessed. Moving the paint in a manner that depicted what I saw from the sky that day - the exploding, colliding, and cooling – was challenging. The fierce dance of those forces that I observed reminds me that even during the greatest of disruptions, nature has a way of bringing balance back. In moments of turbulence - there is beauty. May you lose yourself within the colors, the lacing, and movement of this piece. I hope it speaks to you as nature’s beauty did to me.
Library Exhibit - 2025
Using a minimum color palette, my goal was to create ocean scenes that depict the forces of nature. Each piece emphasizes movement, giving the observer a sense of the immensity of the ocean’s presence.
